Newbie Notes: Create New Layer Below

March 16, 2010

unny how it happens with things that you learn. I came across this wonderful tip somewhere on my travels and then came across it again in one of the Creative Techs free webinars. Now I use it every single day. Here’s how it goes…

There are four ways (that I know of offhand) to create a new layer in Photoshop. All of these place the new layer on top of your currently highlighted layer. But how often do you find yourself dragging that layer beneath it?

If you hold down the Ctrl button (Command on a Mac) and then click the “Create a new layer” icon – see little snip – the new layer is created below. Fantastic!
